Calcium Hydroxyapatite is a natural form of calcium (NZ bovine source) as it is found in bones.

Calcium Citrate is a highly absorbable form of calcium. Needed for skeletal and dental health.

Magnesium - an important component of bone; low magnesium levels are common in people with osteoporosis.

Zinc and Manganese - required by enzymes involved in bone formation and maintenance and have been shown to improve bone density when supplemented along with calcium.

Vitamin D - needed for absorption of dietary calcium and bone mineralization. A deficiency in Vitamin D leads to inadequate bone mineralization and increased breakdown of bone and is linked to osteoporosis.

Vitamin K - required for activation of bone protein to bind calcium in bone; low levels of vitamin K are associated with osteoporosis.

It is important to note that although later studies concentrate on the K2 form, low dietary intake of both K1 and K2 are associated with a higher risk of fracture.

While the area of study of Vitamin K is on-going, many studies do not separate K1 and K2 out and just call both Vitamin K. Some studies have been done regarding potential different actions e.g. K1 for anti-coagulant and K2 for heart and bone health - however K1 does convert to K2 in the body therefore K1 supports bone density.

Boron - a trace mineral necessary for the activation of vitamin D and appears to reduce calcium loss.

One study involving post-menopausal women showed boron reduced urinary excretion of calcium and increased estrogen levels, both of which have a protective effect against osteoporosis.

Horsetail - provides an organic source of silica, an important mineral for collagen formation.

Collagen is an essential component of bone.

Calcium needs may be increased due to:

Excessive intake of caffeine, refined sugar, alcohol, and carbonated drinks.

High intake of oxalate or phytate containing foods e.g., spinach, carrots, bran, raw whole-grains and seeds, soy, peanuts

Certain medications - thyroxine, corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), aspirin.

Cautions:
