    Hops contain phytochemicals with a wide range of biological activities, including oestrogenic, chemopreventive, cardioprotective, and anti-inflammatory properties. Hops herbal supplements have been studied as botanical alternatives to hormone therapy for relief from hot flashes, night sweats, mood imbalances, anxiety, and related symptoms in menopausal women. A compound in hops, 8-prenylnaringenin (8-PN), structurally belonging to the group of prenylated flavonoids, was shown to have the strongest oestrogenic qualities and the potential to prevent menopausal bone loss. Other research has shown that hops extract can strongly bind to both estrogen receptors, stimulate alkaline phosphatase activity in Ishikawa cells, and upregulate presenelin-2 and progesterone receptor mRNA.

    Fenugreek seed has a long history of medicinal use, and recent research suggests it has activity in hormone-mediated conditions. A placebo-controlled trial shows that fenugreek extract substantially and significantly improved a range of menopause-related symptoms including anxiety (58.9%), depression (47.7%), vasomotor symptoms (47.7%), mood swings (68.2%), insomnia (75%), headaches (53.9%), and vaginal dryness (56.3%).

    Ashwagandha, also known as Withania, has been shown in a placebo-controlled trial to have a statistically significant reduction in hot flashes and insomnia in menopausal women.

    Sage species have been used in traditional medicine for thousands of years for the relief of pain, protecting the body, especially the brain, against oxidative stress and free radical damages, and reducing inflammation and infection. Results of a 2019 study showed the severity of symptoms in menopausal women, such as hot flushes, night sweats, panic, fatigue, and decreased concentration were significantly reduced after the consumption of sage extract.

    Black Cohosh research suggests that black cohosh is more efficient compared to a placebo in treating vasomotor symptoms resulting from natural menopause. It is considered a safe and hormone-free remedy for menopausal symptoms.
